The Melikian Center is a comprehensive research and training center with instructional and research missions. More than 50 faculty members from ASU and community colleges in Arizona contribute the center’s efforts in study abroad, critical language study, advising and professional programs.
ASU is one of only two universities in the country to receive national funding for a summer language institute. The Critical Languages Institute (CLI) has grown over the past decade into one of the nation’s leading summer institutes for instruction in less commonly taught languages.
In addition, the center offers a baccalaureate certificate to help students develop special competencies in Russian and Eastern European Studies and center members mentor Fulbright and Boren scholarship fellows.
The center has worked to develop support international development, with support from the U.S. State Department and USAID for projects in Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia and Russia.
