Taiwan Partnership Incentive Fund
Overview
The ASU Taiwan Partnership Incentive Fund seeks to aid and facilitate new academic and research collaboration between Arizona State University (ASU) and like-minded partner universities in Taiwan, as part of ASU's commitment to advance strategic objectives with the Taiwan Ministry of Education and Taiwan Semi-conductor Manufacturing Company.
Expected Award Amount:
Multiple awards between $10,000-$20,000 USD
Project Scope
Consideration will be given exclusively to new projects originating from the ASU community, forged in collaboration with at least one of 12 approved university collaborators in Taiwan. Examples of project types include, but are not restricted to, the subsequent categories:
Scholar in Residence: Inviting a faculty or administrator from one of the partner universities in Taiwan to serve as a visiting scholar at ASU for 1-2 weeks, contributing to special projects.
Research with Faculty from Designated Universities: Collaborating on research projects or joint paper publications with faculty members from the partner universities.
High-Visibility Conferences, Convenings, Presentations: Co-presenting or hosting joint conferences and events that enhance academic exchange and visibility.
Academic Degree Collaborations: Initiating collaborations to develop joint academic degree programs.
University Capacity Building: Developing projects aimed at enhancing the capacity and resources of partner universities.
Skills Training: Advancing access to professional and skill training opportunities.
Teacher Training: Providing training programs for K-12 teachers in Taiwan or Arizona.
Deliverables
Submit a brief project report every 6 months throughout the duration of the active project.
There are 12 Taiwanese universities eligible for collaboration. Preference will be given to new projects with one of the 9 universities designated by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Selection criteria
Projects will be evaluated according to the following set of standards:
Alignment with ASU's Objectives in Taiwan: Demonstrating clear alignment with ASU's strategic objectives and goals in Taiwan, which include increasing enrollment and skill training opportunities from Taiwan, ASU brand visibility and awareness, and research and economic impact.
Demonstration of Partner Commitment: There are 12 Taiwanese universities eligible for collaboration. Preference will be given to projects partnering with one of the 9 universities designated by the Ministry of Education (MoE).
ASU applicant and Taiwanese partners can demonstrate commitment to the project by providing matchings funds or in-kind support including non-monetary matches like faculty and staff involvement. If funds or in-kind support can not be committed at the time of application, commitment can also be demonstrated by providing a feasible plan to secure matching funds for the project.
Eligibility
The funding is open to all faculty and administrative staff within the ASU community.
Required proposal elements
Project Approach, Plan, and Impacts: Presenting a well-defined project plan with clear execution steps and milestones to monitor progress, and anticipated impacts.
Timeline and Deliverables: Providing a transparent timeline with deliverables for the proposed project activities to gauge success.
Logic behind Selection of University Partner(s): Explaining the rationale for selecting specific university partners and how they contribute to project success.
Budget Allocation: The funds can be applied to travel expenses, salaries and wages and other operational expenses. Team Eligibility and Project Partner Commitment: Ensuring project teams are eligible and demonstrating commitment from all project partners. Examples includes a letter of intent from each project lead or director.
Length of Proposal: The expected proposal length is 3-7 pages.
Important dates
Proposals due: Friday, January 5, 2024
Decision by: Friday, March 1, 2024
Project period: May 1, 2024–June 30, 2025
Completion period: The project is expected to conclude within one year. Special projects with extended completion times will be duly considered.
