Arizona State University, with the support of the MasterCard Foundation, works to support young scholars from Africa. From 2012-2015, ASU recruited120 MasterCard Foundation Scholars. These academically-gifted young leaders seek to lead change and make a positive social impact in their communities. The final cohort graduates in 2019.
ASU also seeks to strengthen institutional connections abroad. In 2016, a grant from MasterCard for $21.9 million funds the advanced training of students from Ghana. Starting with 150 students in their third year of study, these young scholars will come to the U.S. to finish their last year and the first year of their masters programs in the 3+1+1 international accelerated degree program at ASU.
ASU’s commitment to global engagement, supporting underserved populations, social embeddedness and sustainability promotes access to quality and relevant education for exceptiontional young people from economically disadvantaged communities, empowering them to give back to their home communities and countries.
